Frequently Asked Questions
I hope these FAQs cover the questions you have – but please get in touch if you have further questions.
01
What kind of handyman jobs do you do?
Pretty much all handyman jobs – everything from putting up pictures and curtains, to fitting a kitchen or bathroom. Please see the list of handyman jobs on this website – but it is not exhaustive – if you can’t see what you need on the list, please ask.
02
Do you guarantee your work?
In the unlikely event that you were not happy with the work I would return and remedy the problem immediately. Customer satisfaction is absolutely key. As a local business I depend on reputation and word of mouth.
03
How do you charge?
For small odd jobs, we can give you an estimate over the phone. If a job is going to take a while, I am very flexible and can work out a 'job' price, so nothing is rushed.
Alternatively, on larger jobs, we can arrange a set fee in advance, plus material costs.
Occasionally, specialized tools or equipment may need to be hired, this would be an additional cost (for example, a chipper for removing tree roots, or an industrial sander for a large deck)
04
Do you offer free estimates?
I can generally give you a rough idea over the phone of how long the job is likely to take, assuming there are no unexpected problems. For larger jobs I may need to visit and give you a quote.
05
Do you work weekends or evenings?
I sometimes work at weekends and evenings, but most work is completed during the working day, Monday to Friday.
06
Where do you work?
Most of my handyman business is focused on the North Shore and in the Greater Vancouver area. Sometimes I am able to work for customers in other areas. Please call and check availability.
07
What happens if you cannot handle the job?
If the job is too large, or a specialist is needed, I will tell you in advance and not take the job. I find that this makes sure I don't waste your time and you get the correct person for the job.
08
How can I pay?
You can pay by cheque, cash or bank transfer.
09
Are you insured?
Yes, James-of-all-Trades has full public liability and other relevant insurance. Documents can been seen on request.
10
Do you give fixed appointment times?
I try to be as accurate as I can with appointment times. You are not expected to wait all day!
11
Do you take away packages and boxes?
I generally take away garbage, but with certain items the city charge a disposal fee (Drywall etc). If so, there may be a charge to remove some of these items.
Alternatively I can give suggestions of specialists who can help.
